Show me the BOOTY
(Intro To "Techno Noise" 101)

THE MAGICAL ATTRACTION OF BOOTY (formerly known as STEAK SAUCE) have, with their self-released album Sanitized For Your Protection, repositioned themselves as "techno-noise." With Kristy Awald (vocals), Rich Barker (bass, samples, beats), M. Sommers (beats, guitar, samples) and Jason Hendrickson (guitar, samples, beats, vocals), the band features groovy, techno guitar sounds, harmonious vocals, warped samples and a driving dance beat.

The CD quickly jumps off to a good start but lacks creativity as a whole. Each of the five songs on the album are well-done and pleasing but are, unfortunately, highly similar. "The Great Machine" is quick and contains a nice tempo with good lyrics, but I found it hard to distinguish from any of the other songs. Were it not for the pauses between each song, it would have been hard for me to tell where one song ended and the next began. There are little, if any, background vocals, no substantial shifts of tempo, no sizable variations in vocals and little instrumental variety.

Monotony, however, is their only downfall. The strange samples and main vocals are wonderful -- they only needed to show a little divergence. Included on the CD are promotional images, photos and movies that you can view through your computer. Quite an enjoyable bonus.

As a newly formed band, they have far to go, but they are off to a flying start. Expect to hear more from THE MAGICAL ATTRACTION OF BOOTY in the near future.
